The Industry’s new southern showcase has succeeded in attracting an above anticipated attendance of 43,356* visitors.
The Motorhome, Caravan & Camping Show 2012 enjoyed a six day stay at ExCeL London from the 14th – 19th February. The first major show of its kind in the region for six years, it treated visitors to an impressive display that included over 600 different models of motorhome, caravan and holiday home plus all the latest tents, leisure accessories and camping equipment.
The combination of a great value ticket price, starting at just £7, plus widespread support from the industry’s major manufacturers and dealerships, many of which chose the event
to launch their 2012 mid season product ranges, helped to drive in the visitors. A total audience of 35,598** paying visitors attended the event (82% of the final attendance).
On display at the Show were products from respected brands such as ABI, Bailey, Coachman, Elddis, Lunar, Swift, Trigano, Adria, Pilote, Autotrail, Autocruise, Marquis Motorhomes, Subaru, Ssangyong, IH Motorhomes, Fiamma, Towsure Products, Pathfinder, Prestige Park and Leisure, Wessex Homes, Manor Park Homes, Tingdene Parks, Coleman, Outwell, Vango, Sprayway, Khyam, Alde International, Lowdham Leisureworld and Fiat, to name but a few! The
Show also welcomed many first time exhibitors, including southern-based dealership Sussex Caravan Centre and VW camper specialist Campervantastic.
Free show features made a trip to the Show worthwhile for both experienced and new caravanners. Opening day fell on Valentine’s Day and the Show’s official partner, The Caravan Club, brought in top dancing duo Vincent and Flavia, of Strictly Come Dancing fame, to perform a romantic ‘Argentine Tango’ as part of Club Day celebrations. The Caravan Club also offered visitors the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a tow car and caravan or a motorhome under expert tuition.
Top TV chef James Martin made special guest appearances on Thursday and Saturday in the Show’s Cookery Theatre, entertaining hoards of people with his good-humoured banter and an impromptu book signing.
Visitors had ample opportunity to seek guidance and top tips from the experts. A popular feature of the Show was The Tent & Camping Clinic run by leading retailer PJ Camping and sponsored by The Camping and Caravanning Club. The Clinic hosted one of the largest indoor displays of tents in the country and offered new and experienced campers advice on the best equipment to suit their requirements plus a daily schedule of demonstrations on the new season tents available.
Also well attended was an Experts’ Theatre, run by the Caravan Writers’ Guild, which offered twice daily presentations and Q&A sessions on useful topics such as ‘New to Caravanning’ and ‘Towing and the Law’. The Theatre also hosted ‘Worldwide Escapes’ a series of talks by travel
professionals from The Camping and Caravanning Club, which provided advice on how to turn dream ‘fly-drive’ holidays to far-flung destinations such as Argentina, South Africa and New Zealand into a reality.
Organiser NCC Events is now in consultation with the industry to gauge feedback on the Show in order to deliver an even better Southern based event.
Says Simon Coe, Exhibition Project Director: “Staging a new Show at a new venue is always a challenge but we’re delighted to have hit our attendance target and feedback from many visitors has been encouraging.”
The dates for the next Motorhome, Caravan & Camping Show are 12th – 17th February 2013.
