Wiltshire, known as “The gateway to the West Country” is characterised by its high downland and wide valleys. Salisbury Plain is famous as the location of the Stonehenge stone circle and other ancient landmarks and also as the main training area in the UK of the British Army.
And for those of you interested in history,the city of Salisbury is notable for its medieval Cathedral, and important country houses, which are open to the public, including Longleat House and Safari Park and the National Trust’s Stourhead House & Gardens.
If you enjoy walking, why not walk the White Horse Trail through the glorious countryside and see the eight white horses carved into the hillsides; or wander through the market towns. For those more energetic, why not take your bikes and pedal your way along the Wiltshire Cycleway Route. Don't forget your cycle helmets!
